Just give it some time

river and sea

I was working on a website to change its font files yesterday. I had done everything correctly to the best of my knowledge. However, it did not seem to work – no matter how many times I looked over my pull request to see if everything was in order. I decided to call it a day and check back the following day.

I checked just now and the issue seems to have resolved itself. The problem was due to cache, where the previous font files and the styles were using cached versions. The website was using some JavaScript to add a class name when the fonts were loaded onto the page. Since that class name was not loaded, the newer fonts were not rendering. I do not know the exact detail of this caching mechanism, but for now, all that matters is that the issue is now resolved.

This seems like an oversimplification of the lesson that we need to be patient, but I believe it serves a purpose. Sometimes, we worry too much when we have something that troubles us. So much so that we lose the happiness of the present moment. When we decide to sleep on an issue or decision, sometimes the problem will resolve itself.

For some of the problems we face at work or in life, the solution is to give it some time, be patient and persevere.

Let me end with Alibaba founder Jack Ma’s quote on this:

Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine.

Okay, that’s enough motivation for a Wednesday πŸ˜…. See you later on another blog post! πŸ‘‹πŸΎ

Reminds of a very important lesson I learned from by days as a tech blogger. The lesson was before hitting the publish button, always take a 20 minute break and read the article again.

Just taking that 20 mins or so break – allowed me to be slightly slower but a lot more accurate.

Thanks for your insight, Aditya! Agreed, that 20 minutes can improve your writing tremendously. I tend to spend about 5-10 minutes since my posts are much shorter lately.
